To everyone who has completed an assignment or task, it’s a wonderful feeling to actually been told “Well Done!”. The child who gets his report card to see “Great Job!” is delighted and smiles at the high praises given to them.
As I looked at this, I couldn’t help but reflect that the greatest praise I want is from God. Just to hear “Well Done!” would give me great joy. So I took a little time out to look at a few things that makes him happy.
“These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at My Word.” (Isaiah 66:2). We must develop an attitude to respect God’s word, a desire to hear his Word and love them. Recognizing that God’s word is life and in them is salvation. This is pivotal to building our Faith!
“the LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.” (Psalm 147:11). Understanding who God is, and what he can do and what he has done for us should strengthen our confidence in him. Let us fear the one we hope in, and hope in the one we fear.
“Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice.” (1 Samuel 15:22). There is no doubt God respects the sacrifices we make, but we must ensure that as we make these sacrifices, they are in keeping with his instructions. Let us ensure our work is not in vain but it’s one that pleases him (Matt 7:22).
Let’s begin with an attitude of humility that leads us to respect God’s word. This will allow us to develop the Faith needed to put our trust in God. Our reliance in him should foster a natural inclination to give ourselves in full obedience to his instructions.
