The St Ann’s Bay congregation last week held??the Annual Acappella Songfest on Saturday July 29 which was a successful event with members from across the island visiting to participate in Acappella singing activities.

COCJamaica visited the congregation for their??Morning Worship on Sunday where Bro Hayr (minister) spoke on the lesson “A call to Holiness“.

“Don’t be scared of the word holy. The call is not an impossible one.
We must be holy here on earth to enter his Holiness in heaven. It’s not a choice or an option. We must be holy.” he insisted as he encourage congregants to embrace the call.

His main text was taken from 1 Peter 1:13-16 where he listed three points as to why we should be Holy.

1. Because of God’s nature it is his right to call on his subjects who were made in his image to be holy.

2. Because his children are led by the Spirit we are led to be holy -??Rom. 8:14

3. We are a peculiar people a holy nation -1 Pet. 2:4-5, 9

He further indicated Holiness is not reserved for a selected few??but everyone

“And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure.” – 1 John 3:3

Jesus has shown us the pattern of holiness for everyone to follow.?? We also have the examples of faith. – Hebrews 11.

Holiness is not just about a name or label but it’s about character. ??We should discipline ourselves to be Holy in our way of life. – 1 Pet. 1:14.
Our conversation (conduct/behavior) reflects holiness by our obedience to God. God is shaping our character if we yield to the spirit.

Jesus will present a glorious church without wrinkle spot or blemish to the Father on his return – Eph. 5:27, 2 Pet. 3:14

How can we remain Holy?
A. 1 Pet. 1:13 – Shape up our minds. Be wise. ??Apply Vigorous intelligence. We are transformed by the??renewing of our mind. ??It takes effort.

The wrinkles we have, we have to let God iron it out through the transforming of our mind. ??it’s continuous work.

B. 1 Pet. 3:13 – To Be Sober. It requires firm self control.

“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”– John 17:17

God is sieving us out by his word. We are being separated for God’s use.

Let us remain in a state he can use us. To remain requires a desire and determination to be sober.
